The inside has been treated with 100% Natural Tung Oil which provides protection to the inside of the nesting box without chemicals that could harm the wood ducks. The outside has been treated with a water based semitransparent deck stain. This provides protection to the exterior of the nesting box.

* Constructed with Triple coated deck screws and Titebond III glue.

* A mesh screen on the interior of the nesting box which makes it easier for the newborn wood ducklings to climb out of the nesting box.

Wood ducklings stay in the nest for only about 24 hours after hatching. After hatching and drying off, the hen calls to the ducklings, which then climb up the cavity wall using sharp claws and jump to the ground or water. They do not return to the nest afterward.

* Entrance Hole: 3” Oval with Predator guard

* Vent Holes: 8 - 5/8” vent holes. 4 on each side at the top of the nesting box and above the nesting area. This allows for better air flow to help keep the nesting box cooler during the warmest months.

* Opening side door with 2 latches to keep the door secure, while allowing for the nesting boxes to be easily cleaned after nesting season. The top of the door has been rounded over for easier opening. Triple coated deck screws are used as the pivot point (hinge) of the clean out door.

Additional Information:

* Wood ducks do not carry nesting material to their nesting sites. Instead, they use natural debris found inside tree cavities or nest boxes, such as rotten wood chips and sawdust, lining it with their own down feathers. They prefer mature, tree-filled, flooded forests for these cavities.

* Nesting Box Lining: When using artificial boxes, 4–6 inches of wood shavings are recommended, as they do not bring material with them. (This is not provided with the nesting box).

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0614/3685/4338/files/IMG_9672_83a98dab-ba91-4624-b216-bb93f295b149.jpg?v=1780234130
